Michael P. Osborne MD, MSurg, FRCS, FACS

Dr. Osborne is Co-Founder and President of Strang Cancer Prevention Institute. In April 2011 he was appointed Director of the Strang Cancer Screening & Prevention Programs at the Continuum Cancer Centers of New York which was a part of the Mount Sinai Health System. He was an Attending Surgeon in the Appel-Venet Comprehensive Breast Center at Beth Israel Medical Center.

 

In 1980 Dr. Osborne joined the staff of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, where he was Head of the Breast Cancer Research Laboratory, Attending Surgeon on the Breast Service and Adjunct Faculty Member at the Rockefeller University until 1991.

 

From 1991-2007 he was tenured Professor of Surgery, Chief of the Breast Service and Attending Surgeon in the Department of Surgery at the New York Presbyterian Hospital - Cornell Medical Center. He was also President of Strang Cancer Prevention Center, which was affiliated with New York Hospital/Cornell Medical Center from 1991-2007.

Dr. Osborne received his medical training at the University of London where he was awarded the Charing Cross Hospital Medical School Governor’s Gold Medal. He trained in surgery in medical centers in the United Kingdom including the Royal College of Surgeons, Charing Cross Hospital, St. James’ Hospital and The Brompton Hospital. In 1977 he was awarded the Raven Prize for research by the British Association of Surgical Oncology. He became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in January 1985.

 

He was on the surgical staff and Honorary Lecturer at the Royal Marsden Hospital and Institute of Cancer Research in London prior to coming to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. In October 1984 he became a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Osborne has lectured in the field of breast disease all over the world, has published and presented over 300 papers and articles, and edited or co-authored four books. He has been named in ‘America’s Top Doctors’, ‘America’s Top Doctors for Cancer’ and New York Magazine’s Best Doctors’ for many years.

 

From 1995-1997 he was President of the New York Metropolitan Breast Group and in 1995 was appointed Secretary General of the International Society for Cancer Chemoprevention. He was elected to the American Surgical Association in 1998. In 2014 Dr. Osborne became President of the New York Surgical Society which was founded 134 years ago and is one of the most prestigious Surgical Societies in the US.
